Residents Special is a celebration of the heart of The Disco Express: our core resident DJs and the sounds they’ve been shaping on dancefloors around the world. Eight exclusive cuts, each rooted in soul, disco and house, yet shaped by the cities and cultures that connect us. – The Disco Express
I have been following The Disco Express since its earliest days. TDE has kept growing over the years, and their events are legendary in the Disco/re-edits circuit.
TDE Residents Special Vol. 1 is a different brew. Not necessarily soundwise, but as a concept. It consists of cuts from some of TDE residents, and it oozes of the vibe you’d be likely to catch if you were to visit one of their residents at their events.
Sam Karlson & Magnolia set of the party in style with their infectious Abracadabra feat. Relaye. A piano driven house/nu disco thumper with a proper sparkle in its kick.
Label boss Bustin’ Loose goes deep with his Soulbound, a string-driven slice of deep house infused disco with an aura of late night and early morning raving.
Caio Cenci swings it mellow with the fantastic Under Pressure, which I premiered a couple of weeks back. It’s catchy and melodic, standing as one of the strongest tracks on the compilation. I’ve kept it on my rotation playlist since first listen.
Sparkling Attitude & Tatiana spearhead the next installation, Soft Launch. It builds nicely into some housey stabs before setting off into a swirly roll of bassline and sparkling pads. Soft and tangy, but still with a deep vibe at its core.
Poppi is the next resident to enter the spotlight. Imagine is the wistful cut full of soul and longing with its ethereal airy vocal and guitars. It lives in the same neighbourhood as Eveerything But The Girl’s vibes and sound.
More than halfway through Monsieur Van Pratt enters the floor. Is there nothing he can’t do? I mean, he’s been on all the most legendary labels, he’s DJed around the world, and everywhere he goes, he leaves a piece of him in any heart lucky enough to have been drawn into his sonic world. On this album he offers not only his signature disco infused sound but furthermore delivers the strongest offering on an album full of some of the finest track in view. Funky Phrase feat. Estefani Brolo has been on repeat in the DA office for weeks now. This is the one.
Roland & Brother Rich serve up an incredibly enjoyable multifaceted slice of jazzy improv infused disco that oozes sunshine and mellow vibes. Perfect in any way for the easy hours in the sun, cocktail in hand and spring in your step. Puerta Plata has it all, and then some.
Finishing off are Crystal Touch with a glittering late night entity full of mellow lingering and sense of parting, perfect for closing TDE Residents Special Vol. 1 on a housey note reminding us why The Disco Express is up there with the best in the disco sky.
